Bintan Mangrove Discovery Tour
The tour takes you on a back-to-nature encounter with Bintan island’s rich mangrove forests. As you journey through the quiet waterways of Sebung River, you’d enjoy the sights and serenity around you. Observe the myriad plant and animal life forms that flourish alongside the fleshy green mangrove leaves. Wildlife The river plays host to a variety of exotic wildlife. Some of the shy wildlife includes the macaque and silver leaf monkeys, monitor lizards and snakes. You’ll hear the calls of the kingfisher and purple heron, and perhaps see a kingfisher in action as it swoops to the water to snare a fish. The riverbed teems with marine life including coral fish, mudskippers, crabs, prawns, mud lobsters, snails, clams and a variety of small fish. Indigenous folks Traditional life is still very much alive among Bintan’s mangrove forests, and you could say that the homes, boats, fishing traps and daily meals are largely derived from the mangroves.
Half / Full Day Tour South Bintan
Take the South Bintan Heritage Tour and explore the enchanting heritage and lifestyle of the island folk. About 1.5 hours by road from Bintan Resorts is Senggarang, a little Chinese fishing settlement where you will find an intriguing 200 year-old banyan tree. The tree stands sentinel to a shrine of the former home-owner, and the spot is a pilgrimage site for local and regional Buddhists who visit to ask for good luck. Walk throufgh the Chinese Park and you will see a Giant Buddha statue. Several centuries-old Chinese temples line the village’s cobbled-stone square, while by the water’s edge are wooden houses built on stilts. Hop onto a boat for the short ride to Pulau Penyengat, an island on the southern tip of Bintan island. You will be rewarded by intriguing heritage sites such as an old Dutch fort, royal mausoleums, ancient palaces and the Sultan of Riau’s Grand Mosque. According to a local belief, the mosque was built with egg whites presented by loyal subjects to the sultan on the eve of His Royal Highness’ wedding. Not to be missed is the capital of Bintan island, Tanjung Pinang, the seat of trade and commerce. The harbour area also offers visitors an authentic experience of the local trading port. Along the way, you may stop to shop for dried seafood and prawn/fish flavoured crackers. The newly opened Vihara Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (500 Lohan Temple) has also been added into the tour.
